Our Story
Chispas Farm is a 4 acre farm located in Albuquerque’s South Valley on occupied Tiwa land. We grow over 120 varieties of heirloom vegetables and fruits, have 100 laying hens for eggs, and also keep sheep, goats, ducks, geese, and rabbits. We are transitioning the farm to no-till agricultural practices and strive for a regenerative and sustainable closed loop cycle. We save a variety of seeds, have perennial pasture for our livestock to graze and be happy, our primary method of pest management is adequate crop rotation and planting lots of flowers for beneficial insects, and soil health is our number one priority. Founded in 2001, Chispas has grown and evolved much over the last two decades. Casey Holland has been running Chispas Farm since 2017 and in 2023 the farm is empowering the crew to take leadership in all arenas of running the farm on our path towards worker equity.

ALBERTO ROMERO (HE/HIM)
FARMER + SALES COORDINATOR
Hello!
My name is Alberto Santiago Romero. I grew up in New Mexico and was always enamored with the high desert beauty of this state .
However, it wasn't until moving to Oregon that I grew a passion for agriculture. I lived there for 4 years and worked with small dairy’s, homesteaders, foragers, and organic farms all along the Willamette River.
As someone who cares about soil, people’s relationship with the Earth and building community through food accessibility, my objective is to learn about all aspects of suitability. Food production, building techniques, and medicine are all things I believe are valuable to this objective. Chispas will provide an opportunity to practice natural agriculture methods I am passionate about, continue to learn about soil restoration and teach others the importance to living with the Earth rather than on top of it.
I'm excited to bring these goals and principles home to Albuquerque, where we can feed, education and grow with our community.
Where are we located?
